"Saving one dog won’t change the world, but surely the world will change for that one dog" ~Unknown.

This is one of my all time favorite quotes, and the reason I initially picked up a camera was to be able to volunteer my time at local humane societies and rescues taking pictures of adoptable pets. Having previously worked at a shelter for almost 5 years I missed being able to make a difference. Personally I find going to the Humane Society of Central Oregon and volunteering very rewarding and I look forward to it every week. Their mission is to care for abandoned, stray, neglected, surrendered and abused animals. Most importantly to place all adoptable animals into loving homes. In addition they provide humane education in the area to encourage a more humane community. Many people tell me they find it too sad to visit a shelter, or don’t have much time and will look online for their next furry family member. If the photos aren’t flattering, blurry or the dog or cat looks terrified the pet can easily be overlooked.

In a world where there are so many homeless pets I feel like a good image can mean the difference between sitting in a shelter waiting, or going home with a family today! I constantly work on improving my skills to not only provide better memories for my clients but also for those pets who hopefully will find being in a shelter only a distant memory.
